Who Is a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty?
Commonly referred to as a nose job, rhinoplasty is a plastic surgical procedure performed for women and men seeking to improve the size, shape, and/or overall appearance of their nose. In addition to addressing aesthetic concerns, the procedure can also be conducted to enhance the functional integrity of the nose by resolving issues that may be responsible for obstructed nasal breathing.
At my practice, some of the most common reasons patients seek cosmetic or reconstructive nose surgery include a desire to modify or refine the nostrils, nasal bridge, nasal tip, and/or septum. For this reason, good candidates for rhinoplasty usually have at least one of the following issues with their nose:
- An evident hump on the bridge of the nose
- A nasal bridge that is distorted and/or misaligned
- A nasal tip that is too large and/or pointed downward
- Impeded airflow caused by a deviated septum
- Misshapen and/or disproportionately sized nostrils
